Slusen houseboat community

Slusen is a pioneering floating community located within a former shipyard in Copenhagen, transforming an underutilised industrial waterfront into a vibrant mixed-use neighbourhood for living, working and social exchange. The project is being delivered in multiple phases and represents the first new floating residential community developed in Copenhagen in over 20 years.

Slusen combines ten unique floating homes with floating shared spaces, gardens, offices and active shipyard functions, creating a hybrid community where living, working and making coexist on the water. Five of the homes were designed by MAST, alongside a wider network of floating and land-based facilities. The homes vary in typology and construction, combining conversions of existing passenger vessels with new-build units on floating concrete pontoons. This diversity reflects an adaptive approach to water-based living, testing different delivery models, construction methods and spatial configurations.
